SUMMARY:

The Bush School is an independent K-12 school located in Seattle, Washington. Bush was founded in 1924 and currently enrolls more than 700 students. The Board and school leadership determined that they would like to proceed with comprehensive upgrades to this original school building.

The Gracemont building is the original Bush School campus. Constructed in 1914, Gracemont was originally the residence of Helen Taylor Bush. She would later open it as a small school and, with success and growth, go on to donate the property to become a nonprofit with a board of trustees. Though many renovations have occurred since founding, this latest endeavor is to structurally and seismically upgrade to current codes, to bring all mechanical and electrical systems to state of the art, and to reconfigure the interiors to the current classroom and ADA standards.

Historic renovations are often full of unique challenges and this project is no exception. Located in the heart of the upper campus, the team has navigated the complex logistics of construction among surrounding buildings, active classrooms, and students.

The project remains on schedule and within budget. The expected date of completion is September 2023.
